This July has been pretty special — and hectic. Besides our sixth anniversary last week, this key event everyone’s keeping a lookout for is the grand opening of the Circle Line’s sixth stage. Comprising the Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road stations, the CCL6 is also notable for it’s transformative role in finally “closing the circle” (as LTA’s media runs have been touting), 17 years after its initial opening in 2009.

Slated to fully open tomorrow (12th July), an Open House for the three new stations was held on 4th July, where the public got a first glimpse of the $5 billion project bringing the Circle Line across challenging coastal terrain within the densely-built up areas flanking the CBD and the historic Keppel Port. Like with every major MRT opening thus far, we were there to soak ourselves in the sights and sounds of this momentous occasion.

Here’s some highlights from the event last week, featuring our STC Team and community engaging in the various activities present!

The impact of CCL6 on travel patterns by public transport however, could not be any more apparent. While it’s nowhere near an “alternative route to the EWL” as former transport minister Chee Hong Tat errorneously claimed in a 2024 Parliament speech, closing the circle still does wonders, particularly for medium-range travel to the various recreational hotspots in southern Singapore. You’ve probably heard enough from us on what we think, (and we’ll share our thoughts on this latest extension soon) so the more important question is, what do people think of the line and the new stations?
