A fresh start, in a new home

Welcome to the new official website of Singapore Transport Collective, home to everything hosted by STC. Be it the blog, the events, or the many projects we will be working on in future, this is where you want to be!

This is an unfamiliar place to many, who are used to the relatively simpler layout of the old STC website. As part of our welcome to you, this first post will serve to orient you around these redesigned virtual spaces, where you can better find what you’re looking for. Amidst the various things we do, a little clarity would definitely help :> Heads up, parts of this site remain WIP due to their more complex nature to set up, and feel free to let us know of any technical glitches you may encounter in the initial period.

Similar to our old website, certain key functions, particularly the blogroll and contact pages, have been retained. That being said, the “blogroll” on the oneSTC website serves a slightly different purpose from previously — posts are now also used for community announcements, event information (new feature) and project features, on top of the core list of commentary articles posted. When new articles (and existing ones from the old site) are added here, they will be classified under a new “Publications” page where published articles and other content can be found.

Ease of access to key pages is important, especially with the many places STC will be going, and that’s why we have introduced constant header and footer bars, which are displayed across all posts and pages on our new website. Important pages, such as the events, publications, and contact pages are placed on the header bar, which is now available even when you’re not on the homepage! We also have a simpler URL, which should make it easier for the community to access our page too!

The design philosophy behind the new oneSTC website is that of it being a “hub” for all our work, in publications, projects, events and other activities that we run. A good chunk of our work might not be based on this WordPress website in future, with new platforms in different mediums (video, audio etc) being explored as potential outreach options, and STC might even see a greater real-world presence beyond the internet. But you can be assured that this cozy little corner of the web we’ve built for ourselves will showcase bits of everything we do.

What’s New

Prior to the establishment of this new website, STC has hosted about a dozen or so events to engage the wider community of readers. Unfortunately, this was largely limited to those who were in our Discord server, as event information could only be disseminated there. With our new website, this changes completely — STC events will also be published on our website, where you may choose to join us and discover our dynamic and vibrant community of passionate changemakers in the transport landscape, even if you are not in our Discord server. Hop over to our Events page to find out what’s brewing!

With the launch of Transport Manifesto 2050 earlier this year, projects are also within the scope of STC’s work, where we work towards certain larger goals that exceed the limited scope of publication work. TM50 is the first of these, but expect more to come as it nears completion and we find something new to do afterwards. Our Projects page showcases the various projects that STC will be conducting. It looks empty currently, but do know that more will come, especially towards the end of 2025!

Not formally incorporated on the website currently, but a planned addition to the STC website will be the introduction of various apps that either serve as helpful tools in our planning and investigation, or automating processes that would otherwise require constant labour-intensive input by Team members.

As we have just merely begun our journey under a new banner, these are just the initial changes to the STC website implemented at the current stage, with more to be considered with the rollout of more initiatives in future, based on our needs. What would you like to see STC do? What would you like to see here? Do let us know, either in the comments, or by contacting the Team!

At the same time, we are also looking for new blood to aid in STC’s expansion objectives! No limitations on prior talent and experience, although we do look favourably on those well-versed in the art of visual design, videomaking, and coding. Want to be part of STC’s push for better transport in Singapore and beyond? Apply to join via our recruitment form today! (NB: unlike the old website, the recruitment and contact forms are now on separate pages!) We will get back to you as soon as possible!

This post will be the very first of many more in the coming years on the new website — here’s to soaring to greater heights in the new era! In the meantime, do subscribe to this site to stay informed of what’s brewing on our end. Once again, a warm welcome to Singapore Transport Collective.
